This course is offered in the fourth semester of B.Sc. (Mathematics) program at The ICFAI University Tripura. Statics and dynamics are the parts of Mechanics which deals with the action of forces on bodies. The science of dynamics is based on the natural laws governing the motion of a particle under the action of forces. In contrast, statics is the study of forces without motion.

The objectives of the course are as follows:

  • To form an equation of motion of a moving particle under the action of various forces.
  • To capture the behaviour of a static body in any instant when the forces are applied in various directions.
  • To understand the character of an object in two and three dimensional system.
  • To develop problem solving skills in mechanics through the application of concepts in statics and dynamics to complex problems.

On successful completion of the course, the students will be able to form and identify equation of motion. They will gain a concept on real life applied problems like rain drop problem, rocket launching problem, stability problem. They will get an idea on centre of gravity and virtual work as well as stable and unstable equilibrium. Further, they will be able to differentiate the velocities and accelerations with respect to Cartesian, polar and intrinsic coordinates.
