MEDICAL TERMINOLOGY AND RECORD KEEPING
COURSE CODE- PMS121
II SEMESTER (IST YEAR)
OBJECTIVES:
- through this course the students will have thorough knowledge of roots, prefixes and suffixes
- they will learn terminologies related to human anatomy
- they will be able to read medical orders and reports and terminologies specific to the students field of study
LEARNING OUTCOMES
- Developing an ability to read and understand medical records and the medical literature;
- Writing terms correctly when abstracting medical records
- Establishing accuracy in International Classification of Diseases, Surgical procedures which will be useful in statistics, medical billing, and auditing medical insurance claims.

Derivation of Medical Terms
Define word roots, prefixes and suffixes
UNIT-II
Basic Medical terms
Form Medical Terms utilizing roots, suffixes, prefixes and combining roots
UNIT-III
Interpret basic medical abbreviation/ symbols
UNIT-IV
Utilise diagnostic , surgical and procedural terms and abbreviations related to

- Musculoskeletal system
- Respiratory system
- Cardiovascular system
- Nervous system
- Endocrine system
UNIT-V
Interpret Medical orders /reports
Data entry and management in electronic and health record system
