Scope and objective of the course: Introduction to Nanophysics course aims to give an introduction to the physics at the nanometre scale.

1.     This course implies to provide a fundamental approach towards the role of dimensionality of the object at nanoscale on their mechanical, thermal, optical, electrical and magnetic properties.

2.     The course aims to deepen students understanding of solid-state physics via confinement effect and new phenomena in nanomaterials.

3.     Learners should be able to obtain basic understanding of the principles, fabrication and characterization methods, and application aspects of nanostructures and nanotechnology.

4.     They should become familiar with the whole concept of the physics of nanoscale science and be able to apply their knowledge for understanding further developments in this rapidly emerging area.

5.     The course philosophy strives at making the students ready for research in advanced fields of materials science and to be a professional in development and production industry.

Course Outcomes: This program has been developed to impart foundational knowledge of the Nanophysics and related fields. After completion of this course students;

1.     Will be able to learn about the background on Nanoscience.

2.     Will know about the distinctive properties of nanomaterials and will be enabled to explain the corresponding physical and chemical properties of materials at nanoscale.

3.     Will gain knowledge about major confinement effects and new phenomena in nanostructured materials and will also be able to use solid state physics to describe them.

4.     Will know how to choose appropriate synthesis technique to synthesize nanostructures of desired size, shape and surface properties.

5.     Will be successful in correlating the properties of nanostructures with their size, shape and surface characteristics.

6.     Will be able to understand the physics in various nano-applications and nanodevices.

7.     This course will deal with the subject at an introductory level for M.Sc students, and will provide the platform for an experimental post graduate research, for an interested student.
