This course is offered in the fourth semester for the BSc in Chemistry students. The course delivers a comprehensive survey of the structure, properties, bonding, and applications of various Organometallic Compounds. The course further emphasizes the basics of bioinorganic chemistry. Bioinorganic Chemistry is a multidisciplinary field that draws on expertise in biochemistry, chemistry, crystallography, genetics, medicine, microbiology together with the effective application of advanced physical methods.

The objectives of the course are following:

v To deliver a comprehensive survey of structure, properties and bonding of various Organometallic Compounds.
v To understand the applications of the Organometallic Compounds in the field of catalysis.
v To understand the basics of bioinorganic chemistry e.g. the role of metal ions in biological systems, metalloenzymes, application of Iron in bio-systems and the storage and transfer of oxygen.

After completion of this course, students can impart essential theoretical knowledge on the organometallic compounds and bioinorganic chemistry. Students can also build their problem-solving skills on the above-mentioned topic. This will assist them in various competitive examinations like IIT JAM, and other state and national level examinations. In organometallic compounds sections student’s gained knowledge on structure, properties, bonding, and applications of various organometallic compounds. Catalysis of organometallic compounds part helped them to understand the applications of these prepared compounds. In bioinorganic section, student’s understand the role of metal ions in biological systems, metalloenzymes, application of Iron in bio-systems, and the storage and transfer of oxygen.
